I have been coming to Sardinia since a child. I and the local people are really struck how the weather has changed. Summer times now regularly experience 40 degrees plus, sun Saharan sand/dust falls more regularly and the rains and wind are more intense.

What this means is the need to be more attentive to keeping the villa cool in very hot weather. The best answer when the AC is on is close all windows, doors and shutters and keep the house dark inside. Don't let the warm air in.

The pool is affected by sud saharan dust and can leave quite a significant layer of dust on the pool floor. The pool man Roberto tries his best but you may find there is still sings if it even after a few cleans

Cape Mannu (no relaiton to us by the way. Mannu in sardinian means 'big') is renowned in the autumn and winter for its great surfing. Even in Spring and Summer if the winds pick up from the South or the maestrales divert form their North Easterly winds you can get some pretty impressive waves. Its certainly making more of a name for itself wihtin the international surfing community. This is a 10km hike with great coastal views and only a slight incline to get up to the tower. This would be a great walk if it wa s windier day in order to take in the spectacular waves. In fact, the waves tend to have a better form one day after major winds.

The North West has one of the highest concentrations of Paleolithic Nuraghic culture. If you are interested in seeing some examples we have 2 of the best examples nearby within easy driving distance from Bosa.

Nuraghe di Santa Cristina is very easily reached as it is located right off SS131. It’s an important complex that dates to the Bronze Age, and you’ll be able to see the best-preserved well temple of Sardinia. This is accessed via a very steep staircase of 24 incredibly well-preserved steps.

On the other side of the nuraghic village, Nuraghe Santa Cristina is a single tower of about 7 meters located in a beautiful olive grove.

Another nuraghe that can be visited from Bosa is Nuraghe Losa, one of the best preserved in Sardinia. It dates to around 1500 BC and the central tower is about 13 meters tall.

Heading up the hill inland you will pass the village of Tinnura. You will encounter innumerable murals that reflect the local life of Sardinians and their traditions. Most of the murals were painted by a local female artist who still lives there (recognisable by a blue bicycle near her studio).

The village itself is very colourful and delightful to stop and go through. The local pizzeria, Marcos is an excellent choice for Pizza and pasta for the whole family at a reasonable price.

Known to be one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, Bosa, Sardinia counts no more than 8500 inhabitants, colourful buildings, a hilltop castle and a river flowing right through the village..

About Bosa

According to the legend, Bosa - - was founded by Calmedia, daughter of Sardo, the eponymous hero of the early inhabitants of the island. Of Phoenician origins (although debatable!), Bosa, whose name is certified by an inscription that dates to 800b.C., developed during the Punic-Roman age. The area during the 11th century became the property of the Ligurian Malaspina §family that built their castle on Serravalle hill, where in 1112 rose the first core of the present centre of the town. The area is awash with places to eat and drink. Within our locality (i.e. 2 km) there is less to be found because we live in a tranquil place. It is however really easy to find places within minute's drive of the villa. We only recommend places we have eaten in recently.

So if you only had one stay in Sardinia and you needed to make a choice about foods that are unique to the area, here's a list.

Bread

Each area in Sardinia has its own way of preparing and making bread. There are literally thousands of varieties.

However, two that you may wish to consider are ;'Pane Carasau' . These are thin, circular, crisp sheets of pastry. The two main varieties are those that are just grain and then others that have more salt, olive oil and herbs included in the preparation. The second is 'Su Moddizzosu'. This is a very soft, circular bread that you will commonly see given away at religious festivals in the Summer.
